A focused wellbeing partnership designed to support the humans behind the profession

Current realities in teaching

Current research shows that teachers experience stress, anxiety, and depression at rates up to three times higher than the general population.

90% of Australian teachers report moderate to extremely severe stress, with nearly 70% describing their workload as unmanageable.

Chronic stress leads to emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced sense of accomplishment — the three hallmarks of burnout identified in global research.

Prolonged stress correlates with higher turnover intentions, reduced job satisfaction, and poorer physical and mental health outcomes

International reviews link chronic teacher stress to anxiety, depression, and cardiovascular risk, as well as withdrawal behaviours and diminished classroom engagement.

The Impact on Educators and Schools

Reduced emotional capacity — chronic stress impairs empathy, patience, and decision‑making, affecting classroom relationships.

Cognitive overload — sustained cortisol activation undermines focus, creativity, and problem‑solving.

Workforce instability — burnout drives attrition, with up to 30% of teachers considering leaving before retirement.

Ripple effects on students — teacher wellbeing directly influences student engagement, achievement, and emotional safety.

Systemic strain — schools face increased absenteeism, lower morale, and difficulty sustaining a positive culture.

Addressing Teacher Stress Differently: A New Approach Grounded in Regulation and Awareness

Reflective Coaching and Nervous System Awareness Training offers a preventative, evidence‑informed pathway to managing psychosocial risks in education. It helps teachers and school staff process emotional load, regulate stress responses, and restore clarity — strengthening both individual resilience and collective wellbeing.

Beyond personal support, this work builds whole‑school capacity through professional learning that deepens understanding of the nervous system, stress patterns, and practical regulation strategies for daily school life. It empowers educators to sustain wellbeing, model healthy emotional regulation for students, and develop a shared language around stress and co‑regulation — fostering safer, more connected relationships and a culture of psychosocial safety.

It is particularly valuable for early‑career teachers, middle leaders, inclusion teachers, and wellbeing or pastoral care teams, who often carry the emotional weight of others’ experiences.

These roles are especially vulnerable to vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress, making regular reflective and nervous‑system‑aware practices essential for maintaining psychological safety, empathy, and professional longevity.
